Dog

I used to tuck my toy dog into bed
when I went off to school.

At least one of us was happy.

Seashell

I was a tiny seashell
tossed up onto the sand
by a random wave,
picked at by a shorebird,
jostled by a crab,
stepped on by a beachcomber.

But I found my way back home.

Sins

The sins of the past
will be the sins of the future.
Only the names change.

Coexist

We welcome all,
no matter who they are
or what they are.

Unless they think for themselves
and disagree with us.

Meaning

The meaning of life
is survival.

We add meaning to life
every day that we live.

Snowflakes

No two snowflakes
are alike.

Until they melt.

I just ruined winter.

Gently

I hike gently now.
To be a part of it.
Not to push through it.

The forest appreciates it
and lets me in on some of its secrets.

Stone

Where does a stone end
and a rock begin?

The answer,
if there is one,
is entirely meaningless.

Pain

Joy, pain
Joy, pain
Joy, pain.

Now it's just
pain.

Symmetry

Seeing is believing.
Peeing is relieving.

Carnivore

Eda-maimed and assailed by chickpeas,
improbable burgers,
and plant-based cheese.

Just give me a steak, please.

Pith

A foolish goblin
consistently hobbles mimes.
